Angola Indiana
Angola is a small town in Pleasant Township, Steuben County Indiana. Angola is the county seat for Steuben County. It was founded by Thomas Gale and Cornelius Gilmore. Angola is home to Trine University (formerly Tri State University) the town is served by I-69 and the Indiana Toll Road (I-80 and I-90). Cities and towns in Steuben County are Angola, Fremont, Orland, Hamilton, Ashley and Clear Lake.
Angola, Indiana is a quiet town on the northeastern border of Indiana. It is just 9 miles west of the Ohio state line and 7 miles south of the Michigan line. It boasts several fine eateries and water sport shops. This town is seasonal in nature. During the summer the population swells and nearly triples due to the glacier lakes in the local area.
The Civil War Monument - Symbol of Angola
The most popular landmark in Angola is the civil war monument. At 70 feet tall it is the second tallest monument in the state. Built in 1917 by E.M. Heltzer, it has four bronze statues at the bottom for the four branches of the military and on top of the monument is the peace loving, Columbia with a flag facing east. The monument is located in the center for the town is the symbol of the town of Angola.

Trine UniversityMany changes are occurring or will soon be occurring with our community landscape. Trine University is in the middle of a $90 million dollar Capital Campaign. A new Student Center and several new residential apartments, three new fraternity houses have been built on campus. The football stadium is complete. The new state of the art "Arc" athletic building has been completed. It will accommodate indoor tennis, lacrosse, track and many other sports. Trine University has also announced plans for its new Furth Performing Arts Center.
New Bike and Walking TrailConstruction of our new bike and walking trail has been completed. Over 4 miles of bike trails are now available in our city.
Downtown AngolaTwo OCRA grants for $500,000.00 each have been received to be used toward the downtown revitalization. These grants will be used to enhance the beauty and safety of our downtown that will make shopping and traveling through our downtown an even more pleasant experience.
Angola Health Care - Cameron Memorial HospitalCameron Memorial Hospital has announced its future plans to build a new hospital just east of our downtown area next to its current campus. This is great news for our future health care and our downtown.
High Tech ParkWe are also partnering with the private sector and Trine University to work on the creation of a High Tech Park to help bring new higher paying jobs for people in our community as well as to help entrepreneurs to start businesses in Angola and Steuben County.
Angola Real Estate
The Angola area offers rentable condos and real estate up for grabs every season. Lakefront properties values are excellent. If you intend to purchase property on the lakes, pricing can range from $75,000 and up. In some areas there are muti-million dollar lakefront investments.
Overall our housing market is very affordable depending on location. There is about every type, price range and size of properties available with new areas being developed for future growth. Interest rates have been great and still hover around the 5% mark for a fixed 30 year term.
Property taxes will vary depending on if the home is a primary property or if it is a second home or investment property. It is cheaper if it´s your primary. We have great tax exemptions in our area which is a great help.
Recreation in Angola
Angola also has one of the smallest theme parks around, called Fun Spot Amusement Park. Good for an afternoon keeping the kids busy having a blast on the numerous rides. Also we have 5 golf courses all public.
Our weather is seasonal; in the summer months, our very busiest time, with our average temperature of 78-82 degrees and sunny. In the winter we have great activities such as tobogganing at the State Park, cross country skiing and snow mobile trials.
Angola Schools
We have excellent schools in our County. There are four school districts. The schools have received local, state, and national recognitions for achievement. Angola High School was recognized at the White House as a New American High School. Three of our schools have received Indiana´s Four Star Awards and all of our schools are members of the AdvancEd/NCACasi focusing on continuous improvement.

With convenient access to both I-80/90 and I-69, Northern Indiana Lakes Country is less than 200 miles from Detroit, Cleveland, Indianapolis and Chicago.
Steuben County has six industrial parks. Outstanding quality of life with over 101 lakes to enjoy along with Pokagon State Park which is rated as the 2nd best State park in the state and draws 750,000 visitors a year.
The Steuben County area is a very well respected location for many travelers and home owners across our nation. We have home owners that live in just about every corner of the United States and some living as far away as California.
This is a family oriented area that attracts people year round and especially in the summer boating months. They come back year after year and bring friends and other families with them.
Some say the area is a bit small for them, so if you are looking for more of a metropolitan area, that can be accomplished easily. Fort Wayne is 45 minutes south; Detroit is 2 hours north east and Chicago is 3 hours west.
I love it here and have no intentions of moving. Everyone is so friendly and there is so much to do. It just feels real comfortable and it´s fun too3;
