Take a moment to read about everything that this little town can offer you as a Fremont home buyer.

History of Fremont

The first inhabitants of the area known as Fremont today were Algonquin Indian tribes. The first white settlers did not arrive to the area until about the mid-1600s. These early settlers were mainly French trappers and fishermen who stayed in the area until the mid-1800s when they were forced West due to Indian wars and treaties.

However, some settlers were allowed to stay, and those who stayed dubbed the town Willow Prairie in 1834. The name of the town was changed to Brockville in 1837, but since there was already a Brockville in Indiana, it was renamed Fremont in honor of General John Charles Fremont.
